Nicole Ari Parker, an American actor, who has appeared in film and television as well as on stage is best known for her role as Teri Joseph, the fiery attorney in the show on Showtime called Soul Food. Nikki Kodjoe became her stage name upon her marriage. As a child in Baltimore, Maryland, she was always intrigued by acting. As she finished high school and was awarded an all-inclusive tuition grant to the University of Toronto where she was a theatre student with a dual diploma in sociology and psychology. After a single semester at the University, Contractor went to an audition on a call-to-action basis for the play Pericles at the prestigious and renowned Stratford Shakespeare Festival [Ontario, Canada and was offered the lead role. The play was well-received for the 92 shows which she was a part of. She won an award in 2002, which was awarded to the most outstanding production of the Year by Canadian critics. Contractor accepted the invitation to attend Stratford's Conservatory program. Only eight men selected as well as four females get accepted for a 20-week intensive course in the classical theatre. Contractor received a guaranteed spot for the upcoming season of shows and eventually landed the part as Hermia In A Midsummer Night's Dream.
